Rumpus is a local skill-sharing non-profit that strives to build a resourceful, creative and sustainable community in Wollongong. Embracing the themes of creativity, sustainability and D.I.Y to curate and deliver fun, affordable classes in vibrant spaces and venues.
We find local talented people with a skill to share and design a class around their skill. Rumpus also provides a platform for local artists, creatives, practitioners and experts to promote themselves in the local community.
Volunteers are at the heart of our Skillshare program, supporting teachers and community members and they come together to share and learn new skills.
Purpose of Position:
To assist with the delivery of Rumpus skillshare classes. Primary tasks and responsibilities:
Time Commitment: Approximately one class per month (2-6 hours per month)
On many occasions, the role of the Rumpus representative at classes is to ‘hold the space’ – set the tone, energy and atmosphere, particularly if the teacher is quiet, nervous and class participants arrive unsure of what is about to proceed.
We aim for classes to be light-hearted, fun, energising and playful. By bringing that confident energy to the space it helps others come along for the ride!
Classes occur on average 4-8 times a month and are usually on weekends or weeknights.

Are you feeling wired, hyper-vigilant and awake? Panicky, fluttery in the belly, a bit shaky? Or exhausted, flat and drained? It’s so very likely that right now many of us are in Survival Mode: our flight/fight response is ON, adrenaline is surging and we are unconsciously and consciously primed to perceive danger. This is so understandable right now. We’ve never been through this before.
As we try and find a rhythm in this new way of being and living right now, try to remember to include a dose of nature, each day. It will do us all the world of good.
The Irish Government are choosing to describe ‘self-isolating’ and ‘quarantine’ as Cocooning.
Folks, let’s talk about ‘Social Distancing’. Us humans are ‘social’ beings which means we seek and crave companionship and are suited to living in communities, yes? It’s wired into our DNA, our bones. Ya feel? Well, nothing about that has changed. We are seeing, and sure you are too, humans getting real creative with ways to continue to connect, and be connected in these times.
Skillshare invites anyone in the community to share a skill by teaching a class. We are not seeking experts, we are seeking passionate individuals who are eager to pass their knowledge along.
