Join us for an evening conversation about Social Connection, Mental Health and Creativity
MakeShift is a program of workshops, courses and events designed to bring into focus the role that creative practices can have in managing our mental health. This form of social prescribing has shown to have incredible impacts for people across the UK, and we are excited to pioneer a program like this right here in Wollongong.
To get the ball rolling, let's chat!
Hosted by Chloe Higgins, founder of the Wollongong Writers Festival and writer of personal memoir "The Girls" (coming from Picador Press in September 2019) we have the opportunity to hear from:
Dr Mark Melek, GP and founder of The Village Practice
Dr Pippa Burns, Lecturer and Research Fellow with the School of Medicine UOW
Michele Elliot, Textile artist and active community member
Caitlin Marshall and Lizzie Rose: Co-founders of MakeShift and Rumpus
We will hear about personal experiences, the power of a creative practice, what the research says, how this fits with traditional medicine, and the importance of artist-led experiences.
Plus we will be launching our first series of MakeShift workshops for June-August
Light refreshments will be provided. Bookings essential and limited places
