Mentally Healthy Workplaces

We know the cost of mental health in Australia is far too high - to individuals, workplaces, families and communities.

It's been estimated mental ill-health costs Australia $500 million every day.

Work can have a huge impact on our mental health. It can help us to feel good about ourselves through meaningful work, which helps improve our mental health. Job stress, bullying or discrimination can cause or worsen a mental health condition.

Almost 1 in 2 Australians will experience a mental health condition in their lifetime, and 1 in 5 Australians experience a mental health condition each year.

Over 12 million Australians are employed, so workplaces are a great place to help prevent mental illness and help people recover when they are unwell.

In 2019, Rumpus with the support of iCare Foundation, launched a ground-breaking program called MakeShift, supporting workers that have experienced Psychological Injury at work, to assist in their recovery process.

In 2020 Rumpus is offering new programs to workplaces interested in fostering greater mental wellbeing in the workplace:

  • Mental Health First Aid - Offering both in-person and blended opportunities for teams to undertake the nationally recognised Mental Health First Aid training program.
  • Workplace Psychological Safety Training - A creative hands-on learning experience for team leaders, providing them with useful strategies they can put it into action straight away.
  • MakeShift at Work - A series of hands-on workshops that allow participants to experience a new creative practice each week, and learn new tools to manage their mental wellbeing. Can be delivered online with delivery of materials to participants prior to workshop commencement.
